Many people do not know much about the small nation of Fiji, located in the beautiful South Pacific Ocean. I would like to share my thoughts about this lovely country and why it is the most perfect Honeymoon destination I have found thus far in my 20+ year travel career.
The wonderful Fijian people are the number one reason why most visitors feel so sad to leave! They come away from Fiji feeling as though they left their second home. The Fijian people have yet to succumb to lure of the “almighty dollar” and still treat tourists as though they were guests in their own home. All of the best honeymoon resorts in Fiji are small and remote. Most accommodations are stand alone cottages called Fijian Bures (pronounced “Boo-ray”) with thatched roofing and Fijian hardwood interiors. These lovely properties, while being very secluded and remote, contain all of the amenities that one would expect from the best hotels and resorts in the world. The difference here is that you may be one of 30 (or fewer) guests, and the resort staff will know you by name after your first day, if not sooner!
Fiji is not for those looking for lots of nightlife or amazing shopping, though an evening in a Fijian resort usually includes more laid back fun with a string band and kava ceremony – the national drink of the Fijian people. There are some lovely Fijian crafts and furniture that can be purchased, but shopping is not the main focus. Most resorts do not offer television of telephones en suite, however some do so be sure to ask if this is important. The dining experience in Fiji is quite a treat! You will find dining by candle light on a private beach, in a lovely dining room area, in your Bure or maybe you would prefer to be dropped off with dinner and drinks on a floating dock lit by candles and lanterns… Some resorts are located near waterfalls and natural waterslides where there is swimming. Some drop you off at your own waterfall. Many also offer complimentary daily activities which include horseback riding, deep sea fishing, diving along with great snorkeling trips. Most are accessible by sea or air, but not by road.
Initial costs will be more than in some areas such as with Hawaii or the Caribbean, however once in Fiji most find the no tipping policies and low out of pocket costs, a breath of fresh air. There are some all inclusive resorts in Fiji. There are many resorts that include all of your meals and most non motorized resort activities. For those planning their Honeymoon, Fiji is worth the splurge of having a once in a lifetime, remarkable and unforgettable Honeymoon! In addition, Fiji is a lovely spot for a romantic destination wedding or vow renewal. There is literally no wait time (just the day after arrival). We help every step of the way in coordinating all of the necessary documentation and also with the details of the ceremony. And if you have a small wedding party, we can book the entire resort for you!
Our favorite Fijian resorts include Qamea Resort & Spa (Qamea Resort is one of the best values), Royal Davui Island (Royal Davui is a lovely small island resort), Wadigi Island Resort (Wadigi Island is an entirely private island) and Likuliku Lagoon (Likuliku Lagoon – the only luxury resort in Fiji with overwater bungalows). I would be happy to chat with you in regard to a Honeymoon in Fiji. Myself and our staff have visited most if not all of the Fijian properties, and would love to share some of our experiences, expertise and advice.
