Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa is set on 40 oceanfront acres on Kāʻanapali Beach, looking across the water to the island of Lānaʻi. Its gardens are a landscape of waterfalls, lava rock and lagoons that is home to swans, exotic birds and even a small colony of African penguins.

It is a large and lively resort with a great deal to do, from a vast pool area to a rooftop stargazing programme and one of Maui’s best-known lūʻau. For couples, the appeal is a beautiful beach, good restaurants on the doorstep, and sunsets from your own lanai, with the Kāʻanapali beach walk leading north to the shops and restaurants of Whalers Village.

The resort has 810 guest rooms, including 31 suites, in three towers. The rooms have been fully renovated in a light, modern island style, and each has a private lanai with a glass balcony that opens to views of the Pacific, the West Maui Mountains, the golf course or the gardens. Suites offer more space and a separate living area.

For a honeymoon, we recommend an ocean view room or suite on a higher floor, where the sunsets over Lānaʻi are at their best. Regency Club rooms add access to a private lounge with breakfast and evening refreshments.

Dining at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa makes the most of its setting, with tables beside the ocean, the waterfalls and the swan lagoon. The day begins at Swan Court, where a generous breakfast buffet of traditional dishes, local fruit and baked goods is served beside waterfalls cascading over lava rock. By the pool, ʻŪmalu is a relaxed restaurant, bar and lounge with ocean views, local favourites and an island take on American cooking.

The Grotto Bar, a swim-up bar hidden in a cave between the waterfalls, serves frozen and classic cocktails without leaving the pool, and Honolulu Coffee has coffee and grab-and-go items for the morning. The restaurants of Whalers Village are a pleasant walk along the beach path.

For dinner, we recommend:

• Japengo – Asian and island-inspired cuisine beside the ocean, with sushi, premium steaks and locally sourced seafood.

• Son’z Steakhouse – USDA prime cuts and fresh seafood with an extensive wine list, in a romantic setting overlooking the swan lagoon.

• Drums of the Pacific Lūʻau – A lūʻau dinner on Kāʻanapali Beach with the music and dance of Hawaiʻi and Polynesia.

The pool area is the centre of resort life, with free-form pools set among waterfalls, a rope bridge, a 150-foot lava tube waterslide, a whirlpool and a separate children’s pool. Kāʻanapali Beach is just beyond for swimming, snorkelling and long walks at sunset, and catamarans leave from the beach for snorkel trips and sunset sails.

The resort offers Hawaiian cultural activities such as hula and ʻukulele lessons, wildlife tours of the grounds and a daily presentation with the resident penguins. There are also tennis courts and a fitness centre, and the Kāʻanapali golf courses are next door. One experience we recommend to every couple:

• Tour of the Stars – An evening of stargazing on the resort’s rooftop, guided by an astronomer with powerful telescopes.

Spa

The resort’s oceanfront spa offers lomi lomi massage, signature body treatments and facials in a calm setting right beside the water. For honeymooners, we recommend an oceanside massage for two early in your stay.

Weddings
