Maravu Lodge

Maravu Lodge is on Taveuni, Fiji’s Garden Isle, in the village of Matei at the northern end of the island. It sits in the Taveuni jungle overlooking the Somosomo Strait, right next to Matei Airport, which is about a 90-minute flight from Nadi. The lodge is only a couple of minutes from the terminal by car.

This is a simple, relaxed lodge, laid out like a Fijian village around a pool and gardens. It suits couples who care more about hiking, diving and island life than resort luxury, and it makes an easy, good-value base for exploring Taveuni’s waterfalls and reefs.

The rooms at Maravu Lodge are spread through the gardens in the style of a Fijian village. Every room has high ceilings, hardwood floors and traditional island décor, and Wi-Fi is free around the clock. Mosquito nets, blankets and extra towels are available from the office on request.

The lodge does not publish its room types, so tell us what matters most to you, such as privacy, a view or an outdoor shower, and we will confirm the best available room for your dates.

Maravu Lodge has one small restaurant and café, open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an all-day menu in between. Meals are served in an open-plan dining room with views, or out on the large indoor and outdoor deck.

The Jungle Bar overlooks the pool and gardens and serves soft drinks, banana smoothies, fresh fruit drinks, beer, wine and spirits throughout the day.

The pool and its garden surrounds are the heart of the lodge. Maravu Beach is about a five-minute walk away, down the drive and along the main road.

The front desk arranges both free and paid activities, including kava with village chiefs, weaving, spearfishing, snorkeling, surfing and diving. The Somosomo Strait is one of Fiji’s top dive regions, home to Rainbow Reef and the Great White Wall, a sheer drop-off best suited to experienced divers.

On land, Taveuni is known for its jungle waterfalls. We can arrange trips to Bouma National Heritage Park, Lavena Point and the Waitavala Waterslide, and the island’s forest reserves are a draw for birdwatchers.

Maravu Lodge does not publish what its nightly rate includes, so we will confirm the meal arrangements for your dates when we quote. Wi-Fi is free throughout your stay.

Drinks from the Jungle Bar, laundry, taxis and most excursions, including diving, are charged separately. Some activities at the lodge are free, and the front desk has the current list.
