Koro Sun Resort and Rainforest Spa
- Vanua Levu
Koro Sun Resort and Rainforest Spa sits on the Hibiscus Highway near Savusavu, on Vanua Levu, Fiji’s northern island. Guests fly from Nadi to Savusavu or Labasa, and the resort provides the ground transfer from either airport. The property is a 160-acre sanctuary that runs from the reef and lagoon up into the rainforest.
It is a relaxed, good-value resort with 52 bures and rooms plus four private villas. Couples have their own adults-only corner on the Edgewater Lagoon, including the resort’s well-known Floating Bures, while families are well looked after elsewhere on the property. It suits honeymooners who want a quieter, greener side of Fiji with plenty to do outdoors.
Every room is air-conditioned. The Botanical Rooms are set in the tropical gardens: Tropical Bures and Garden Bures for two, plus Two-Bedroom Bures, Two-Bedroom Pool Bures and a Two-Bedroom Oceanview Pool Bure. On the water, the Family Edgewater Rooms are the two-story Edgewater Villas, the Edgewater Pool Bures and the Two-Bedroom Marina Bure, each with a private pool or plunge pool.
The Koro Villa Collection adds four private villas: Lighthouse, Mountain Top, Vesi and Dalo. For a honeymoon, we recommend the Adults-Only Edgewater Rooms, which are reserved for guests 16 and over:
• Floating Bure – A bure for two that floats on the resort’s protected lagoon, with a king bed, a separate lounge, a private deck and your own two-person kayak.
• Edgewater Bure – A thatched, traditional Fijian-style bure with a king bed and a private porch raised over the Edgewater Lagoon, with a ladder down to the water.
• Garden Bure – A simpler choice in the gardens, with a king bed, a stone shower and a private walled courtyard.
Palm Grove is the main restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The cooking blends Pacific Rim and European flavors, using garden produce and local seafood, and the three-course dinner menu changes daily. Levu Bar sits inside Palm Grove.
Latitude 17 Seafood and Steak is the resort’s dinner restaurant on the Edgewater Lagoon, open on selected evenings, with its own bar for a drink at sunset. Sand Bar & Grill is the casual spot beside the Floating Bure Lagoon, with a cafe menu and a rum bar called Jack’s. There is also the swim-up Wai Bar at the pool.
Koro Sun has two pools, a kids’ waterslide, tennis and pickleball courts, volleyball and a nine-hole pitch-and-putt golf course in the rainforest. Complimentary activities include guided snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, cycling, rainforest trekking, herbal walks, handline fishing and coconut demonstrations.
At an extra charge, there are trips to a pearl farm, a waterfall hike, kayaking on the Salt River and a private beach excursion. Divers are looked after by Dive Savusavu, an independent dive shop based at the resort’s marina.
Spa
The Rainforest Spa has three treatment bures in the forest, lit by candles and lanterns. The menu includes the Rainforest Massage, a Banana Leaf Body Wrap, coconut scrubs and papaya facials. Couples can book the Romantic Couple’s Massage, with two therapists working side by side.
Weddings
Ceremonies can be held on the beach, on the Seaside Patio, in the Main Bure, in the rainforest or up at the Mountain Top Villa. A celebrant from a local village or a Methodist minister conducts the service, and Fijian wedding dress and a traditional cake can be included.
Packages can be tailored to the couple. A legal wedding must be registered locally, and we can help with the paperwork.
Children
Children of all ages are welcome. The Jungle Kids Club and playground runs the Bula Buddies program for ages 4 to 12, and the Meimei Nanny service looks after children 3 and under. The Edgewater Bures and Floating Bures are adults-only, for guests 16 and over.
Koro Sun Resort and Rainforest Spa is not an all-inclusive resort. The nightly rate covers your accommodations, round-trip ground transfers from Savusavu Airport or Labasa Airport (Labasa transfers require a stay of at least three nights) and the resort’s complimentary activities.
Meals are extra. The resort sells a Full Board Meal Plan that covers breakfast, lunch and dinner and must be taken for the whole stay by everyone in the bure or villa. Children 12 and under eat free with paying adults. Drinks, spa treatments, scuba diving and off-site excursions are charged separately. Ask us about adding the meal plan to your package.
