When it is time to take to the “not so friendly” skies, there are some great apps that are quite useful, if not down right engaging! Some will answer questions while others will entertain! Some are also redundant, so keep this in mind when considering making a purchase or downloading a free app. Find a listing below of some great apps and their web links. Most are available for IPhone, Blackberry and Android devices as well.
On the fly – a great app for finding the most current fares out there. Note that you cannot book flight arrangements with this app, but it will give you an idea of what is available as well as the cost. This is especially helpful for those who may be stuck somewhere during a busy holiday time, and need to catch another flight. Most carriers will let you wait for their next available flight, but in many cases they will accommodate you on another airline if you press the issue (using the squeaky wheel theory does work in these situations). Flight status will give you live flight updates while traveling, which can be helpful because at times they are faster at delay advice than the airlines. You will be provided with information about arrival times, gates, ETA’s and delay information. Helpful for those waiting to pick you up as well. Find this app at the following web address: http://www.flightstatus.us/
Gate Guru is great for those with a layover, providing amenities within most US airports. This app will provide you with reviews as well. Find it at http://gateguruapp.com/
TSAwait will give you an idea of how long the lines will be in security, and how much time you need to allow for security. Averages and maximum wait times are given. Find this app at http://www.taclogic.com/Main/TSAwait.html
