If you are traveling in the UK by rail between December 24 2010 and January 3rd 2011 – there will be major delays and re-routing.
According to the Association of Retails Travel Agents (ARTA), between the evening of December 24 and January 3, rail passengers in the UK face massive delays as ten days of engineering works affect more than half of Britain’s main railway routes. Four of Britain’s seven main lines will be severed by works at some point: London to Glasgow, London to South Wales, London to Penzance and London to Norwich. This will result in journeys to family and friends taking up to four times longer than normal. The daily mail reports that as many as 22 million people are expected to travel by rail over the holiday period, but dozens of shutdowns will turn simple journeys into multi-change trips using replacement buses. Additionally, “Passengers are advised that bulky luggage may not be able to be carried on rail replacement services.” The disruption is expected to last from late on December 24 until January 3.
